Chequers Kitchen Cookery School | Expert Cookery Courses in Kent

Young People

Teenagers can come and cook at Chequers Kitchen, either by attending with their school during the day or with Linwood Youth Hub in the evening. (These cookery sessions are subject to funding being available and so may not be available at all times.)

Young people aged from 8 to 18 can learn cooking skills that will help them have a healthy lifestyle, as well as skills useful for future employment. They also experience team work and the collaboration necessary when cooking in a group. Some of the young people who have learnt to cook with us have put their skills to great use – for example, cooking for younger children at the Youth Hub. We also occasionally run a crash-course for teens headed off to university or preparing to leave care, to help them learn to budget for and cook healthy, tasty meals. Watch this website for future courses for young people, or contact us if you have a group of young people who want to learn.

Chequers Kitchen are delighted to sponsor the Kent Cooks competition, where young people are invited to take part in Kent and Medway’s annual masterchef-style event. The aim of Kent Cooks is to develop the confidence and abilities of young people so they can prepare meals on a fixed budget. It also increases awareness of healthy options and locally grown Kentish produce.

We also offer after-school cookery clubs, and Saturday morning baking classes for children aged 9 to 15. Find out more.

This video shows our family cooking course, which has been very popular.
