Chequers Kitchen - keen2Cook courses for healthy cooking

Community Cookery Courses in East Kent

Do you want to learn to cook low-cost healthy meals? Perhaps you have a ‘fussy eater’ at home and want to help them eat more healthily? Or maybe you suffer from anxiety or depression and would enjoy cooking ‘mood food’ in a friendly, welcoming setting. Whatever your circumstances, learning to cook from scratch is a fantastic investment of your time and effort!

We run cooking courses throughout the year that are supported by The Big Lottery and other generous funders. This means you do not have to pay if you would find it difficult to meet the cost. We aim to help you improve your physical or mental health through cooking and eating well.

Cooking for Young People

We offer cookery courses for young people. They come and cook at Chequers Kitchen, attending either with their school during the day or through Linwood Youth Hub in the evening. We teach them cooking skills that will help them have a healthy diet, as well as skills useful for future employment. They also experience team work and the collaboration necessary when cooking in a group. Some of the young people have put their skills to great use, cooking for younger children back at the youth hub. We also occasionally run a crash-course for teens headed off to uni, to help them learn to budget for and cook healthy, tasty meals.
